Carr Printing: Design it Yourself

We’re happy to accept your correctly prepared electronic files. To make sure you get the best possible results, we’ve assembled this list of guidelines so your print job is able to be processed as smoothly as possible. Media We can accept files submitted on the following transfer media: • Zip (100mb/250mb) • 3 1/2” floppy disk (mac/dos) • CD-ROM Please include a printout of all the files on the disk. Note: Remember to keep a backup of ALL files that you send to us. Accepted Software We can support artwork created only in these applications: • Adobe PageMaker (mac/pc) • Adobe InDesign (mac) • Microsoft Publisher (pc) • Quark XPress (mac/pc) • Adobe Illustrator/Macromedia Freehand (mac/pc) • CorelDraw (pc) • Adobe Photoshop (mac/pc) Image Formats Be sure to supply all native and imported files. All images must be either .eps, .tif or .jpg files. Save all images at high-resolution (300 ppi). Black & White All black & white (bitmap) images must be scanned between 600-1200 dpi. All grayscale and color images must be scanned at 300 ppi. Note: Always scan images at the size you will use in your page layout program… NEVER smaller! Fonts Send all printer and screen fonts, or TrueType fonts. Include all styles used – regular, bold, italic and bold italic. Colors We print 4 process (CMYK) colors, or up to four spot (Pantone) colors. Note: Do not use the default red, green or blue (RGB) colors available on your color palette as these do not accurately convert to CMYK. Any heavy black ink coverage must be set up as a true black (C75 M50 Y50 K100) for color printing. Trapping We perform basic color trapping as part of our normal pre-press operations. Bleeds Set your document size to the exact size of your finished piece. If your design includes images or color fills that extend to the edge of your final printed page, you must create bleeds. Make sure your images or color fills extend at least 1/8” past the page edge. Note: For non-bleed jobs, make sure there is 1/8” clear space from edge on all sides. Hard Copies Please supply us with a composite, plus color separation printouts for EACH color plate (CMYK). Print the hard copies from the media being sent rather than from your hard drive. This ensures that the hard copies and electronic files sent to us match. In addition, you must supply a separate printout for each PANTONE‚ color you use.
